Some people may wander how the great RSA diaspora maintains contact with what is happening back in South Africa on a week by week basis, and in some cases people even wonder whether we do. We do track what is going on in SA – reading online newspapers and also listening to podcasts.
It is almost a Sunday morning tradition in our house now: we wake up to our weekly (sometimes bi-weekly) dose of the ZA show; a brilliant podcast starring Glen and his wife Bridgette. We have been following their weekly “broadcast” for almost two years now and they are now an integral part of our family routine. The reason why this has triggered me into a post is simple. The latest episode featured Glen’s visit to Mzoli’s in Guguletu which captured my imagination – a quick look at the post on the ZA Show website and a watch of an associated video clip (see below) of another visit to the establishment on YouTube makes you quickly realise what Ubuntu really means. I have to say that Mzoli’s is now firmly on the list to visit when we are next in Cape Town.
If you want to find out more about Mzoli’s – go here – it is well worth a read.
For those of you that have been watching the web site now and again, you should have seen that Sarah has updated the kids pages, which triggered me to pull myself away from the day to day normality and actually put finger to keyboard for a change. Summer is on its way (the braai and the smoker have been dusted off) and we are looking forward to a stream of visitors from Cape Town. Stay tuned for more snippets of our daily existence ….
