While Niks was here for the school holidays, we managed to enjoy a week in Cornwall. As we had expected the weather was all over the place, but we managed to do everything that we wanted – beach, Padstow, Boscastle and we also added in a trip to Plymouth as well.
This time we stayed on a working farm – Hele Barton, near Bude in north Cornwall which was great for the girls. The girls really enjoyed the location, and Isabella and Ruby were taken by the fact that there were tame sheep and a couple of lambs right outside the back door. Ruby decided that the lambs should be part of the extended family and demanded to see them every 15 minutes, which kept us busy – Nikita was quite often the “big sister” tour guide taking the two little ones around to see the sheep. During the week, the annual sheep shearing took place – after which Ruby constantly told us that the sheep’s “coats off” – this clearly made an impression on her.
Talking to the farmers wife when we left, we found out that the revenue from the wool did not cover the cost of actually sheering the sheep! Something is wrong with this formula! I have pretty much come to the conclusion that the actual farm probably just breaks even, any real profit probably comes from the renting out of the accomodation to tourists.
All in all the week was a great break, which we really enjoyed! (and we were probably somewhat dryer than those in Bucks or Berks.) There are a couple of photo’s from the trip below. More photo’s to follow later
